Jewel-Osco ends Preferred Savings Card

Published: Sunday, June 30, 2013 9:02 a.m. CST

It looks like you’ll have one less tag on your key chain to worry about.

Jewel-Osco announced late last week it has eliminated its Preferred Savings Card.

Its website promotes “Card Free Savings – Everybody gets a great low price every day.”

The grocery store chain’s Fuel Rewards program also has been discontinued, although customers will be able to redeem rewards collected in June during the month of July.

“Our priority right now is simple: to lower prices at Jewel-Osco,” Jewel-Osco President William Emmons wrote on the company’s website. “To do that, we have to make changes. We know it may seem like we’re taking away something that you’ve come to enjoy and has given you a reason to shop with us, but in the long run, we want you to know that we think you’ll see it’s worth it.”

In January, Supervalu sold the Jewel-Osco grocery chain to Cerberus Capital Management.
