CPS hires nearly 250 to pack up closing schools
CHICAGO – Chicago Public Schools plans to hire 200 young people to pack up schools that are closing this summer.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported that the temporary hires are young people between the ages of 16 and 24. They will move furniture and other items from schools that closing to schools that will receive new students this fall. The Chicago Board of Education voted recently to close 50 schools and programs. The Chicago Teachers Union filed lawsuits on behalf of parents to stop the closings.
CPS has hired another 45 people to pack, move and install technology equipment. The summer workers were chosen by lottery through the One Summer Chicago program.
