WOODSTOCK – A former Wonder Lake man is being held at the McHenry County Jail after being charged with sexually assaulting a young girl.

Evan A. Staron, 27, was arrested Friday by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, both Class X felonies. Court records list his address at 27045 W. Grass Lake Road in Antioch, but authorities said he used to live in Wonder Lake.

A female who is related to Staron told police she had been sexually abused by the man between 2007 and 2009 at a residence in Wonder Lake. She was younger than 13 at the time.

Lt. James Popovits of the sheriff’s office said authorities are interviewing more possible victims, which could bring additional charges.

Class X felonies are punishable by between six and 30 years in prison.

Staron is in custody in lieu of $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
