Out of touch
To the Editor:
Now more than ever, taxpayers are taking a hard look at their vacation plans.
They are either taking fewer vacations, shorter vacations or less expensive vacations. Not so with our president. His most notable vacation was a recent $7 million vacation to Hawaii. No expenses were spared – Air Force One, the best accommodations, sumptuous meals and fine wines. And now the president has embarked on a $100 million African tour/vacation.
But our president is certainly no stranger to vacations, golf, celebrity appearances, fundraisers and talk-show appearances. The Government Accountability Institute recently published a report after examining President Obama’s schedule. It compared all the time spent in economic meetings during his first term with his time spent golfing and on vacation. He spent 976 hours golfing and vacationing while spending only 474 hours on economic meetings.
The president and his family live like royalty while Americans struggle to make ends meet. But he is not solely responsible for such blatant self-indulgence. The millions of voters endorsed him not once but twice share the blame.
President Obama proclaims his care and concern for the taxpayers while instituting policies contrary to their common good. When it comes to the suffering and needs of Americans, President Obama is completely out of touch.
