Kyle Grillot - Boston's Rich Peverley pulls on Chicago's Nick Leddy while he controls the puck during Game 2 of the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals against Boston at the United Center in Chicago Wednesday, June 15, 2013.

CHICAGO – The Blackhawks were quick to re-sign one of their fastest defensemen.

On Wednesday, the Hawks agreed to a two-year contract with Nick Leddy, a talented 22-year-old who had 18 points (6 G, 12 A) in his third season with the Hawks. Leddy struggled in the playoffs but the Hawks remained confident in his future.

“We are pleased to announce that Nick will remain a core member of our organization,” Hawks general manager Stan Bowman said in a statement. “Over the course of the past three seasons, Nick has shown continuous development and we think he will be essential to our long-term success.”
