Sox's Konerko, Crain put on 15-day DL
CHICAGO – The White Sox put first baseman Paul Konerko and reliever Jesse Crain on the 15-day disabled list today before their game against the Orioles.
With Crain (right shoulder strain, retroactive to June 30) and Konerko (lower back strain) sidelined, the Sox recalled third baseman Brent Morel from Triple-A Charlotte and purchased the contract of left-hander David Purcey from Charlotte.
Crain noticed tightness in his shoulder while playing catch prior to yesterday's game and felt it again when warming up during the seventh inning. Crain owns a 2-3 record with a 0.74 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 38 games this season.
Konerko is making his third trip to the DL in 15 seasons with the Sox. He missed six games with the same back ailment but returned to the lineup last night against the Orioles. Konerko went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts.
Manager Robin Ventura said he hopes both will be back after the All-Star break.
