Mother sues caregivers in adult son's death

JOLIET – The mother of a mentally disabled man who died after a fight at a Bolingbrook group home has filed a lawsuit against his caregivers.

The Herald-News in Joliet reports that Teresa Gale filed the lawsuit Monday in Will County. She claims a caregiver for her 30-year-old son didn’t seek help soon enough to prevent his death.

The lawsuit states Eduardo Formanski died Sept. 17, 2011, six days after a fight with his roommate at a group home operated by Individual Advocacy Group.

Attorney Robert Karr is representing the mother. He says the roommate – who was nearly twice Formanski’s size – was on top of him during the fight and smothered him.

Charlene Bennett, executive director of Individual Advocacy Group, declined to comment on the lawsuit.
