2 young boys in critical after Chicago shootings

CHICAGO (AP) — The mother of a 5-year-old Chicago boy who was shot overnight says she first heard gunshots and thought they were fireworks.

Speaking outside the hospital where her son Jaden Donald is in critical condition, Jasmine Dillon Donald says she heard as many as 30 rounds early Friday.

Her son was shot twice — in the thigh and abdomen — while he was playing in a park with other children.

Jaden was injured hours after another Chicago boy was shot in the head.

The 7-year-old was shot twice around 7:30 p.m. Thursday while he was in a different park on the city's southwest side.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports six men have been killed and at least 28 other people have been wounded in shootings throughout the city since Wednesday night.
