Former village manager honored

Former Algonquin Village Manager William Ganek was honored with a special service award by the Illinois City/County Management Association at their annual conference in June, the village said in a news release.

The ILCMA award is presented to individuals who have significant professional accomplishments. Ganek was recognized for his service to Algonquin and to the local government management profession, the village said.

Ganek recently completed a 35-year public service career, which started as a senior planner in McHenry County from 1976 to 1981. From 1981 to 1992, he was employed as the director of planning for Crystal Lake.

In 1992, he joined Algonquin as village manager. He retired earlier this year.

The ILCMA is a professional organization, which promotes and supports professional local government management.
