Suspect in Crystal Lake stabbing case apprehended

CRYSTAL LAKE – A 30-year-old man wanted on two counts of attempted homicide was apprehended Monday in Alabama, police said in a news release.

Jimmy Bell Jr., of Elgin, was taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshal's Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Tuscaloosa Alabama Police Department.

Police said Bell fled the scene after he stabbed two people multiple times the morning of July 2 on the 1500 block of Isle Royal Circle in Crystal Lake before law enforcement arrived. He traveled to Alabama where he has family members. Bell was apprehended without incident in his cousin's house.

In the incident, Bell allegedly stabbed a 28-year-old woman and her 23-year-old boyfriend. The woman has been released from the hospital, but the man remains in the hospital in stable condition, the police department said.

Bell is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail. When and if he will be transported back to McHenry County has yet to be determined, said Commander Dan Dziewior.

According to the police department, after the incident, Bell drove a red Honda Accord, with the Illinois license plate 5566117. The car has yet be recovered. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the car is asked to call Crystal Lake Police at 815-356-3620.
