Crystal Lake to spray for mosquitoes citywide

CRYSTAL LAKE – A citywide misting application will take place in Crystal Lake overnight between Friday and Saturday to help control the adult mosquito population.

If weather conditions are poor, city officials will move forward with the application the next available evening. The treatment is a supplement to the city's abatement contractor, Clarke Environmental Mosquito Management Inc., which will continue larviciding efforts.

Clarke will apply a synthetic pyrethroid used widely throughout the Chicago area for adult mosquito control.

As part of the city’s existing mosquito abatement program, Clarke regularly examines and treats breeding sites throughout the area, including storm sewer catch basins. The program helps control mosquitoes while they are in the larval stage.

Residents can report a breeding site or request a treatment application at the mosquito hotline 1-800-942-2555.
