McHenry man gets 8 years for stealing $40 at knifepoint

WOODSTOCK – A McHenry man who prosecutors said stole $40 from a McHenry convenience store at knifepoint was sentenced to 8 years on Thursday –$5 for each year in prison.

Shannon L. Jones, 38, was charged in April with two counts of armed robbery, but the charges were amended to aggravated robbery, a Class 1 felony. Jones pleaded guilty to in a deal accepted by McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather.

Assistant State's Attorney Michael Combs, who also is chief of the criminal division, said that on April 1 Jones robbed the McHenry 7-11 at knife point and fled with $40 cash before being apprehended.

Class 1 felonies are punishable by between four and 15 years in prison.
