Time to reconnect with customers, community

Do you sometimes feel like you need to be working 24/7 or you will never get ahead? I know it may sound crazy, but with all of the great festivals and events taking place in Algonquin and Lake in the Hills, you can actually work and have fun all at the same time.

If you are a business owner, or a member of any church, group, or club, community festivals offer a great opportunity to volunteer together and represent your organization. Ask your staff if they would be interested in volunteering. Not only are you contributing to the success of the festival or event, you will be surprised at how many of your customers and neighbors will enjoy seeing you helping their community.

When you volunteer during these summer events, you have the opportunity for residents and visitors and other volunteers to meet and see you which may lead to new introductions. We all know the value of building relations through referrals, word of mouth and community service. Why not get out from behind your desk and ask your staff, friends and family if they would like to “reconnect” and spend a few hours helping at one or all three of our local festivals:

• Lake in the Hills Rotary Ribfest, today through Sunday; www.rockinrotaryribfest.com.

• Algonquin Founders Days Festival, July 25-28; new location at Algonquin Lakes Park; www.algonquinfoundersdays.com, or call the chamber at 847-658-5300.

• Lake in the Hills Summer Sunset Festival, Aug. 30 – Sept. 1; www.summersunsetfest.com.

All are welcome to volunteer. Areas where volunteers are needed include  entrance gates, carnival, and other various responsibilities. When you volunteer, not only are you able to enjoy the festival, you are helping to fill the more than 100 time slots needed to help make each of this festival a success.
