Dump truck carrying sand overturns near busy Algonquin intersection

ALGONQUIN - Sand and oil were dumped on the roadway near the intersection of Route 31 and 62 in Algonquin after a truck overturned on Friday morning, according to the Algonquin Police Department.

Authorities were called to the 100 block of West Algonquin Road at around 5 a.m. for a report of an accident, police said. Officers arrived to find a dump truck carrying sand overturned.

The vehicle was heading south on Route 31 when the driver attempted to turn east onto Route 62, which caused the sand in the truck to shift, police said. That shift caused the vehicle to overturn.

The driver of the vehicle, John Loeffler, of Elmhurst, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper turn and no valid insurance.

He was not injured.
