PROPHETSTOWN – Two boys have been arrested in connection with a fire Monday that destroyed eight buildings in the northwestern Illinois community of Prophetstown.
Sauk Valley Media reported the boys – ages 16 and 12 – are brothers visiting their father from out of state.
Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Chris Endress said they set fire to a recycling bin behind a restaurant in Prophetstown’s downtown district.
The boys were arrested early Tuesday and transported to a juvenile detention facility in Galesburg. Charges have not been filed but a court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
