Published: Tuesday, July 16, 2013 1:56 p.m. CDT

CRYSTAL LAKE – Pets and owners have a better chance of being reunited if the animals have microchips for quick identification and current rabies vaccination/registration records.

The McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center will host a rabies vaccination and microchip clinic from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 27 at its Crystal Lake facility, 100 N. Virginia St., at theintersection of Woodstock Street and Route 14.

The event is first come, first served. Doors will open promptly at 11 a.m. Participants are asked to not bring animals that are in heat. Dogs should be on leashes and cats in carriers.

Rabies vaccinations cost $10 for one year or $25 for three years. Registration tags are required by law; registration fees are separate and required at the time of rabies vaccination.

Discounts for senior residents apply and for pets who have been previously spayed or neutered when buying registration tags.

Microchips cost $15.

Adoptions that cost $80 also will be available and include age-appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter, feline leukemia virus and feline immunodeficiency virus testing, microchip, heartworm and free first veterinarian visit at participating veterinarians.
