Get it right
To the Editor:
Right or wrong? Truth or lie? At times, difficult to distinguish. Too much speaking, not enough listening. From the beginning of time on earth, men and women have had a proneness to believe lies as truth. Today, the issue of “same-sex marriage” infers that homosexual activity is normal, acceptable and approved behavior.
Some churches, some presidents and some fair-minded people have come to this conclusion. Is this based on truth or a lie? We have a history of making wrong choices when they’re based on our own understanding and feelings.
Consider the abortion issue. Many argue that it’s about the woman’s right to be in control of her body.
Could it be that out-of-control, inappropriate behavior and a irresponsible desire to eliminate the consequence is the truth?
Feelings come and go. Truth is constant. Behaviors define us. Before we get too comfortable with ourselves, a quick, honest self-examination of some of our own destructive behaviors will automatically classify us all together.
The “good news” is that we are not left helpless in determining truth or receiving forgiveness. Jesus, the Son of God, tells us, “... for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” (John 18:37)
Our founders got it right, and we can, too!
