WAUKEGAN – A woman from Waukegan was sentenced to 29 years in prison for the 2010 beating death of a 5-year-old boy.

The News-Sun reported 37-year-old Yolanda Jones pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for the death of Tommy Davis III. The Waukegan woman faces up to 40 years in prison.

Authorities said Jones was in labor in a Zion hotel room watching her own children as well as Davis when the boy died.

Her lawyers said the mother of seven was overwhelmed, but a prosecutor said the boy suffered “senseless, brutal torture.”
