County has responded well to challenges

The recently released Northwest Herald’s Market Data 2013 publication contains economic data specific to McHenry County that reflects a positive trend from 2010 to 2011. Output from countywide businesses increased by 15 percent or $2.2 million, as did employment, which increased by 10.3 percent or 11,192. These indicators show a positive trajectory for the county.

As referenced in my article in the Market Data 2013, McHenry County overall responded well to the economic challenges. That is not to say there wasn’t a stumble or two, but it is the reaction and response to those missteps that make the difference. What can make the difference is leadership, not just from the CEO or chairman, but from throughout an organization – public or private.

With that said, we are pleased to announce in partnership with Leadership Greater McHenry County, our keynote speaker for the 2013 MCEDC Annual Dinner: Harry M. Kraemer, executive partner with Madison Dearborn, former chairman and CEO of Baxter International and professor of management and strategy at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.Kraemer is a widely recognized expert in values-based leadership.

Join us on Nov. 5 at the Holiday Inn in Crystal Lake to network, hear Kraemer’s keynote address, and meet the 2013 Business Champion nominees, of which your company could be one. Online reservation is available at
