WOODSTOCK – A full-scale search of the McHenry County Correctional Facility on Thursday found no contraband of any kind, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies, with assistance from multiple K-9 units from throughout the area, searched the housing, booking, intake, and laundry areas, as well as the multipurpose and exercise rooms on Thursday for any illegal items, according to a news release. It was the largest search since 2009.
During the search, inmates were not in the areas being searched and they didn’t come in to contact with any of the K-9s or their handlers, the news release states. Smaller-scale searches randomly take place by correctional officers and Sheriff’s Office’s K-9 units throughout the year.
Searches take place to ensure the safety of inmates, employees and the facility, police said.
Authorities from Bannockburn, Crystal Lake, Spring Grove, Carpentersville, Wauconda, Waukegan, Woodstock and Harvard assisted with the search, as well as the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police.
