Drummer who dressed as a clown pleads guilty

EAST ST. LOUIS — A 31-year-old southwestern Illinois man who dressed as a clown while performing as a drummer for a rock band has pleaded guilty to production of child pornography.

Martin L. Evanick of Collinsville changed his plea to guilty Monday. He faces up to 30 years in prison when he's sentenced Nov. 4.

Evanick was a member of the band called The Core of Your Nightmares. He dressed as a clown as part of the act.

Prosecutors allege Evanick convinced a minor to engage in sexual activity and photographed her. A stipulation of facts signed by Evanick and entered in his docket Monday says he told investigators he had a sexual relationship with the girl knowing she was 17.

Reached by phone Monday, Evanick's Taylorville attorney, Monroe McWard, declined any immediate comment.
