Literacy Connection seeks adult literacy tutors

ELGIN – The Literacy Connection needs more adult literacy tutors.

One hundred ninety-four adults have reached out for help and remain on a tutor waiting list.

The agency serves 16 northwest suburban communities including Algonquin, Carpentersville, Cary, West Dundee, Hampshire, Huntley and Lake in the Hills. The agency provides customized one-on-one adult tutoring, English conversation groups and family literacy programs.

A tutor training in August will be composed of five modules. Interested community members can learn about the agency, specifics about the August training, tutor-learner matches and other volunteer opportunities from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug 5 at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.

Training continues that evening and throughout August for those who are interested.
