McHenry Rotary gears up for Blues, Brews and BBQ

McHENRY – The Rotary Club of McHenry will host its annual Blues, Brews and BBQ event Aug. 2-4 at Petersen Park, 4112 McCullom Lake Road.

Admission costs $10 per day, or a three-day pass costs $20. Children 12 and younger get in free.

The music, food and games begin at 4 p.m. Aug. 2 and continue until 11 p.m. On Aug. 3, the program runs from 11:30 a.m. until 11 p.m. On Aug. 4, festivities begin at 8 a.m. and run until 8 p.m.

Bands include John Todd and the Rough House Blues Band on Friday night; the Rhythm Bone, Toronzo Cannon, and Blooze Brothers on Saturday; and Aly Jados, Frank Bang and the Secret Stash, and Dave Weld and the Imperial Flames on Sunday.

Games include triple grass volleyball on Saturday and Quads on Sunday.

Included in the activities on Saturday and Sunday are volleyball tournaments for men, women and juniors with a registration fee of $120 per team.

This year’s weekend will include a 5K Run for Youth Leadership at 7 p.m. Saturday. This event raises funds for youth scholarships, leadership awards and exchange programs worldwide. The registration fee in advance is $30 and $35 on race day.

Sunday morning will feature a barbecue cooking contest at 8 a.m. There will be three categories: chicken, beef and pork. The grand champion will win a Weber grill. Other trophies include laser-etched wood cutting boards.
