Richmond house fire causes $80,000 in damages

RICHMOND – Investigators still are looking into the cause of a late Saturday night structure fire in Richmond that caused an estimated $80,000 in damages, according the Richmond Township Fire Protection District.


The Richmond Fire Department responded to a house fire at 10314 East St. at 11:13 p.m. Saturday after a neighbor across the street reported the fire.


Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy fire on the first floor and the stairway to the second floor already in flames, a Richmond Township Fire Protection District news release said. The bulk of the fire was extinguished within 10 minutes, but crews were on the scene until 1:30 a.m. Sunday.


Heat and smoke damage was found throughout the house. Most of the damage was confined to the center core on all three floors. The house was unoccupied and empty of belongings.


The Illinois State Fire Marshal is investigating.


Departments assisting with the fire included Spring Grove; Wonder Lake; Hebron; Twin Lakes, Wis.; Crystal Lake; Marengo; Woodstock; Fox Lake; Antioch; Lake Geneva, Wis.; Bloomfield, Wis.; Randall, Wis.; and Wilmot, Wis.
