Immigration policy

To the Editor:

Since 1986 and now again in 2013, the American government is trying to fix the illegal immigrant problem. It looks like in all these years, the Senate has not learned that you must first close the border tight to the illegal immigrants.

All the present illegal immigrants have to be registered in the next six months and have an American citizen sponsor, who guarantees them a place to live and a place to work for a year. No welfare.

They must have a clean police record with fingerprints and a healthy physical record. Every year in January, the illegal immigrants have to report in at the U.S. Postal Service. My wife and I and our immigrant friends had to fulfill the above requirements in the early 1950s.

If the government would do it this way, it could pick the healthy and honest ones for citizens instead of just buying votes for themselves.
