JOLIET — A Mokena woman was sentenced to a decade in prison for the 2010 stabbing death of her mother.

The (Joliet) Herald-News reports Gaye Wern pleaded guilty to a second-degree murder charge for the death of her 89-year-old mother, Tresa McCauley.

Authorities say the 61-year-old had been living with her mother for about six month before the older woman's body was found in a bath tub with multiple stab wounds to her torso.

Wern will also have to spend two years reporting to her parole officer after she's released from prison.

Mokena is about 30 miles southwest of Chicago.
