Charity Bean Bag Tournament to aid food pantry, scholarship

ALGONQUIN – The Algonquin Lions Club and Algonquin Buffalo Wild Wings will sponsor their fourth annual Charity Bean Bag Tournament on Aug. 17.

The tournament will be at 11 a.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings, 461 S. Randall Road, Algonquin.

The tournament will benefit the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Food Pantry and will fund the Lion Ted Spella Education Award.

From the proceeds of last year’s event, the Lions donated $2,500 to the food pantry and awarded $2,500 to a District 300 graduating senior.

Throwing the first bags will be John Weiler of Buffalo Wild Wings; Kathy Mountain, president of the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry; and John Spella, an Algonquin village trustee whose father, Ted Spella, was president of the Algonquin Lions and president of the Algonquin Village Board.

The event is a 32-team double elimination tournament with cash prizes awarded to the top three teams.

Entry forms are available at Buffalo Wild Wings, and the cost is $30 per team. Players under 18 must be accompanied by a parent.

Buffalo Wild Wings will contribute 15 percent of the food proceeds to the Algonquin Lions during the tournament.

A raffle will be conducted featuring more than $4,000 in prizes, including a weekend at The Abbey Resort in Lake Geneva, golf outings and gift cards.
