A 64-year-old Marengo man was killed Friday when he was ejected from a vehicle that rolled over in a crash in Michigan, according to reports in several Michigan-based media organizations.

Jesus Pena was one of four people traveling in a Jeep that was involved in the crash on Interstate 196 near 88th Avenue in Zeeland Township on Friday afternoon, according to the Holland Sentinel.

According to the Sentinel, Pena was pronounced dead at the scene after he was ejected from the Jeep. Injured in the crash were the driver, Jennifer Pena, 31, and a 7-year-old girl, both of Marengo, and a teenage girl from Tucson, Ariz., according to the Sentinel’s report.

The girl was in serious but stable condition Friday, and the teen was in good condition, the Sentinel reported.

According to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Jennifer Pena was in fair condition Saturday night.

Witnesses told police that Jennifer Pena apparently lost control of the Jeep, which rolled from the eastbound lane of the interstate to the westbound side of the roadway, and came to rest near the shoulder, according to the Holland Sentinel’s report.

WZZM Channel 13, an NBC station in Grand Rapids, Mich., reported that the accident happened shortly before 5 p.m. Friday and that the Jeep first clipped a semitrailer. The roadway was closed until nearly 9 p.m.

The driver of the semitrailer was reportedly not injured.

Jesus Pena and the girl, who were in the backseat, were ejected from the Jeep. The Holland Sentinel reported that the front-seat riders were wearing seat belts; none of the media reports specified if those in the backseat were wearing theirs.
