An Elgin woman died in a skydiving accident Thursday, according to the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency personnel were called to the area of East 19th Road in Dayton Township at around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday for a report of a skydiving mishap, according to a news release. Stephanie Eggum was located in a cornfield nearby, and was pronounced dead shortly after.

Investigators determined that the 32-year-old cut away her main parachute during a jump for an unknown reason before deploying her reserve parachute at an altitude too low for full deployment, the news release states.

A professional skydiver and drag racer, Eggum graduated from Jacobs High School in Algonquin, according to media reports.

The LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office and Corner’s Office are investigating the incident.
