Packers' Bulaga likely to have ACL surgery next week

Bryan Bulaga’s second opinion on his injured knee was similar to the first – his ACL is torn and the Green Bay Packers left tackle likely will miss the 2013 season, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Bulaga, a 2007 Marian Central graduate who grew up in Crystal Lake, suffered the injury in Saturday’s scrimmage. The Packers’ medical staff diagnosed a torn ACL, but Bulaga sought a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews, known as one of the best orthopedic surgeons in the nation.

ProFootballTalk.com’s Mike Florio reported Wednesday that Andrews recommended surgery to repair the tear and it likely will take place next week after swelling subsides. Bulaga did not miss any snaps after the injury and was hopeful there would be a way he could return sometime this season.

The blow is especially tough for the fourth-year tackle since he is coming off an injured left hip that knocked him out after Week 9 of last season. That injury did not require surgery and Bulaga was eager to get back on the field at a new position. He started at right tackle most of his three previous seasons.
