To the Editor:
I have a request for us. From the prayer “The Our Father.” “... forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”
Easy to say, and at least for me, not so easy to do. I mean, really do it and mean it.
So I am asking all of us. And this is a BIG one. Is there someone, are there someones, who have hurt you, made you mad, disappointed you, irritated you, stepped on your toes, insulted you, hurt your feelings, hurt someone you care about, really got your goat, made fun of you, deliberately hurt your feelings to inflict pain, taken you for granted?
Whatever they have done, regardless, exhibit God’s mercy. Forgive them – really forgive them. No strings attached, no more holding onto the pain, the anger, the disappointment, the grudge. Let it go.
Give it to God. Lay it at the foot of the cross. Ask him to take it away from you. Fill the new empty space with his love. Ask God to help you with this difficult task. Make yourself better and make the other person better. Forgive them and pray for them!
And if you’re like me, pray that God take away your sin of pride to enable you, to help you really do this.
How about it, would you please do it? By doing this with our hearts and his love we can make this world and the world we touch a better place!
