Speaking out on bleachers
To the Editor:
This is in regard to the bleachers at Crystal Lake South High School.
The district is not following any city zoning laws concerning the height of these bleachers or the drainage concerns.
The city has asked twice that the district stop working on the bleachers until they file all the proper paperwork and all is approved.
The district’s view is that it is not governed by the city of Crystal Lake and can, therefore, do what it wants.
Our property values are now being affected by these bleachers. They are enormous in size and now tower over our homes. The district claims that the school needs seating for 3,800 spectators. There has never been anywhere close to 1,500 at a game.
The district also has not addressed the issue of where these 3,800 spectators will be parking as the school’s lot will not accommodate anywhere near that many cars.
The district has gone to lengths to prevent the neighbors from finding out about meetings. Neighbors called and were lied to and told there were no meetings at all.
Crystal Lake is not growing anymore, and this huge of a stadium is just not warranted.
