Lake in the Hills to replace water well pump

Published: Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013 9:14 p.m. CST

LAKE IN THE HILLS – Village Board members last week hired Layne Western out of Aurora to replace the pumping assembly for one of Lake of the Hills’ water wells. The work will cost $20,480.

The Public Works Department found that Water Well 6’s pumping capacity had been diminished, according to village documents. A subsequent inspection found that the motor shaft was badly damaged and could not be reused.

As part of the project, the village has to have the old well pump assembly professionally decontaminated and disposed of mercury, under Illinois Environmental Protection Agency rules, according to a memo to the Village Board.
