FRG creates over-the-counter permits

Published: Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013 1:48 p.m. CST

FOX RIVER GROVE – The village this week has started a new way of processing simple building permits.

When residents bring in permit requests for projects that do not need plan review, such as a furnace installation, people can just pay the fee and be issued a permit "over the counter" on the same day.

"It saves time ... and is a convenience for residents," Village Administrator Karl Warwick said.

Previously, a permit for any project would have to be reviewed by the Building and Zoning Department.

More complicated projects, such as an addition to a house, still will require a plan review before a permit is issued, Warwick said.
