Band to aid Cary teen with brain cancer
CARY – A group of local rockers will host a fundraiser Sunday in Cary to help a former classmate fighting brain cancer.
The University – composed of Cary-Grove High School graduates Ryan Lammers and Cale Singleton, and McHenry residents John Benedeck and Dean Sinclair – will hold a 50/50 raffle during the Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce’s Sportsfest from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Feinberg Court near Route 14 and Feinberg Drive.
The band also will perform from 1:30 to 4 p.m. during the event, with family and friends combing the crowd selling raffle tickets.
The proceeds, as well as any individual donations, will go toward medical bills for recent Cary-Grove graduate Haley Lichter, who was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer in July.
“Ryan [Lammers] really didn’t know Haley [Lichter] because they pursued different interests, but they graduated the same year from Cary-Grove,” said Nancy Lammers, the boy’s mother. “We felt we had to do something to help because this is such a horrible situation for a young girl to have to go through.”
Lichter was diagnosed with grade three anaplastic oligodendrogllioma after a craniotomy to remove a brain tumor the size of an orange this past July. She is next scheduled to undergo six weeks of chemotherapy as well as other tests.
As she continues treatments, medical bills already total more than $200,000.
