Johnsburg Village Board raises sewer, water rates

Village Board moves ahead with project to install sidewalks

JOHNSBURG – Residents and business owners will see their water and sewer bills rise.

The Johnsburg Village Board on Thursday evening voted to the increase the base and per-gallon water and sewer rates, as well as the connection fees.

The fixed rates rose $1 for sewer and $5 for water, and the usage rates rose 6 cents per 1,000 gallons for sewer and 5 cents per 1,000 gallons for water.

A flat rate also was added for users who don’t have water meters. It was set at $32 a month.

Under the new fee schedule, a residential home – which, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, uses 9,600 gallons of water a month – will see its water bill rise $5.48 to a new total of $41.76.

Assuming the same amount for sewer, residents would see their sewer bill increase $1.57 to $48.23.

To hook up to the village’s water and sewer system, residential property owners will have to pay $7,013.32 for sewer, a increase of $117.23, and $5,542.78 for water, an increase of $92.65.

The Village Board also moved ahead on a project that will install sidewalks on Fairview Avenue between Church Street and Johnsburg Road.

It hired HR Green to do the engineering, surveying and construction management for the project for just under $8,000.

“We are excited about getting this project done as it will provide a defined area for children to walk more safely to and from the schools and the library,” Village President Ed Hettermann said in an email.

NOTE: The amount of water used by the average American household in a month was corrected.
