WOODSTOCK – A man who died after a two-car crash Thursday near Huntley has been identified as 84-year-old Gerhard Von Dahlen, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the intersection of Marengo and Diekman roads in an unincorporated area of McHenry County at around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday for a report of a two-vehicle crash with injuries.
A Jeep driven by Von Dahlen was eastbound on Marengo Road when it struck a pickup truck attempting to turn east onto Marengo road from southbound Diekman Road, according to a news release. The Jeep overturned and struck a tree.
That intersection is controlled by a single stop sign for traffic southbound on Diekman Road, according to the sheriff’s office.
Von Dahlen, of Algonquin, was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.
He was transported to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where he was pronounced dead.
The other driver, a 70-year-old Huntley man, was not injured.
Alcohol is not suspected to have played a role in the accident.
Toxicology results are pending for both men.
The investigation is ongoing.
