ZION – Police in a northern Illinois community are asking residents to search their trash cans as authorities look for a missing 5-month-old boy who authorities say disappeared from his Zion home.

In a statement released Thursday on Facebook, Chief Wayne Brooks said more than 200 people have been looking for Joshua Summeries. The baby was reportedly abducted Wednesday morning.

Brooks is asking homeowners to perform a "detailed search" of garbage and waste containers for anything that could be evidence, saying authorities believe the infant "has been harmed or worse."

Brooks said the city also was postponing trash pickup from homes near the boy's apartment.

The baby was reported missing by his mother, who was home when he disappeared. Police are interviewing "persons" of interest in the case.
