CARPENTERSVILLE – The latest branch of the Boys & Girls Club of Dundee Township has opened, providing Carpentersville students with a safe and fun after-school organization.

Meadowdale Elementary School officially became the seventh Boys & Girls Club of Dundee Township last week. About 100 students will participate in the organization, which will offer four hours of after-school activities to first- through fourth-graders. Activities will include math and literacy programs, homework assistance, crafts and athletic activities.

The Boys & Girls club also offers students dinner and a chance to participate in community service projects.

“For us to be able to provide four hours of safe programming, it’s huge,” said Curt McReynolds, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Dundee Township. “The great thing now is that the more kids we serve, we’re starting to see more success stories.”

With the addition of Meadowdale, the Dundee Township location became the fifth-largest Boys & Girls Club in Illinois. It serves 600 children a day in Carpentersville.

“My goal is to serve all the kids in Carpentersville,” McReynolds said. “My goal, and the goal of the staff, is to get kids involved in the programs they need to be successful.”

Meadowdale Principal Jack Melfi said his school was the last in District 300 to get a Boys & Girls Club that needed it, and said the organization will have a big impact on the Carpentersville community.

“We’re trying to make this a community-based school and welcome the community back in,” he said. “[The Boys & Girls Club] is going to be a large part of it.

“We want [our students] to be the best citizens they can be.”

The Boys & Girls Club has been around for more than 100 years and has served celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Sugar Ray Leonard and Denzel Washington.
