Letters to the Editor

Left point of view

To the Editor:

I have lived in the city of McHenry and McHenry County for over 40 years.

During that time, I have quietly tolerated McHenry County’s Republican history. You can imagine my surprise and then pleasure when I read the editorial page in the Aug. 19 issue.

Lo and behold, I found two letters to the editor that were right on, and I want to thank Cecile Powell and Carl Hurtig for clearly expressing their views. And then I noticed the “Sketch View” and smiled even more.

Another article in the Aug. 19 paper caught my eye, the one headlined “Police cancel anti-terrorism trainings.” There are some powerful quotes in that piece from both sides. Nice reporting.

Just now I went back through the front-page section to read Crystal Lake resident Joseph Morton’s column, “Happy Birthday, President Bill Clinton.”

Tell me. Were all these Democratic-slanted views grouped in Aug. 19’s paper because you all also wanted to say, “Happy birthday, President William Jefferson Clinton?”

Whatever the answer, I thank you 10 times over for providing a non-Republican point of view. Keep up the good work.
