PECATONICA — A northern Illinois Republican state legislator says he's stepping down at the end of September.

Jim Sacia is in his sixth term in the Illinois House of Representatives. He tells The (Freeport) Journal-Standard that he never planned to spend more than 12 years representing the 89th House District. But the Pecatonica resident says he's undecided about his political future.

Sacia says he might run for another office.

Local Republicans will pick a replacement to finish the rest of Sacia's term. Whoever they choose will represent the district until the November 2014 election.

Sacia is a former FBI agent who's the Republican spokesman for the Agriculture & Conservation Committee.
