60-year sentence given in Chicago teen's death

CHICAGO (AP) — A 19-year-old Chicago man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison in the death of a Chicago teen whose body was found severely burned in 2009.

Cook County prosecutors say Erick Ortiz was sentenced on Friday. The victim, 15-year-old Alex Arellano, was burned, beaten and shot to death. Ortiz was convicted of first-degree murder in April. Three others were sentenced to decades-long prison sentences in the case.

Prosecutors say Arellano was accosted by members of the Latin Kings street gang, who attacked him when he refused to give the gang hand signal. The gang members reportedly beat him with baseball bats, struck him with a car and finally shot him in the head.

His body was set on fire and left in a gangway between buildings.
