Inmate in Kane County died of hanging

A female inmate found dead in her jail cell Friday at the Kane County Adult Justice Center died of asphyxiation by hanging, the Kane County Coroner's office determined.

Police identified the inmate as Terry A. Hart, 52, 600 block of Woodland Drive, South Elgin. Hart had been at the center since July 31 and had previous encounters with South Elgin police, according to the Kane County Sheriff's office.

An officer found Hart unresponsive in her jail cell around 1:45 p.m., Friday, during a routine check. She was taken to Delnor Hospital, where she was pronounced dead later that afternoon.

The coroner conducted the autopsy on Friday. Police continue to investigate the incident.
