Bates: It’s time to recognize McHenry’s senior standouts

Published: Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

The McHenry Area Chamber invites you to honor individuals you know who are 60 or older who have contributed much to the community through their work accomplishments, volunteerism, mentoring of others or just by being a builder of families.

We wish to recognize 10 such inspirational people at our “Chapters: Stories of the Wise, Witty and Wonderful Luncheon.” The luncheon will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 18 at the McHenry Country Club, 820 N. John St., McHenry.

We encourage family members and friends to acknowledge incredible people who have enriched lives at home or in the community by completing an application at www.mchenrychamber.com. Applications must be submitted by Sept. 10.

The 10 honored at this event will get acknowledgement from the community, friends and family for their part in lives; two guest tickets for a luncheon prepared for them; and a keepsake book.

The event is sponsored by Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Heritage Woods of McHenry, the Chamber Referral Group RISE and Rosecrance.

The McHenry Area Chamber invites women to attend the WINGs ninth annual Table Talk luncheon Sept. 25 at the McHenry Country Club.

Table Talk is different from a typical luncheon. Attendees move from table to table for two courses, getting the opportunity to promote their business or services to 18 other businesses. The cost is $28 for Chamber members. Participants are encouraged to bring promotional items.

The Chamber’s Country Meadows Wine & Crafts event, sponsored by the Northwest Herald, will feature crafts, wine tasting, a farmers market and a small vendor fair. It will be Sept. 15 at Veteran’s Memorial Park, 3400 Pearl St. The event is free.

The wine tasting is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is sponsored by Mercy Health System and will feature wines from 31 North Banquet & Conference Center.

Our farmers market, provided by Harms Farm, provides mums decked out in fall colors, vegetables and baked goods.

At the Country Meadows event, the Chamber’s Young Professionals group will be holding a diaper drive from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Help them fill a trailer provided by McHenry Harley-Davidson, and you will have an opportunity to win one of two bikes donated by Epic Cycle. This helps our vulnerable populations – infants, children, disabled children and adults, the elderly and those with cancer.

The Red Carpet Business Awards will be Nov. 13. It will acknowledge Chamber members for their diligence, leadership and service to customers, employees and communities.

Ten award categories are available for organizations. Please feel free to submit a nomination either for your company or another that meets most of the criteria in the desired category. Nominations will be reviewed by Chamber ambassadors, select Chamber board members and the Red Carpet Committee. There will be three finalists recognized at the Red Carpet event with one winner.

The honored organization will gain from being an award winner. The selected organization in each category will get an article in McHenry NOW magazine, which reaches 9,000 homes and businesses; a listing on the Chamber’s website; a keepsake award; a news release sent to media; and all winners and finalists will be part of a PowerPoint presentation highlighting their organization.
