CRYSTAL LAKE - Route 31 between Terra Cotta Avenue and Ray Street has reopened after a gas leak caused a temporary closure early Wednesday.
For the second consecutive day, a portion of the roadway near Routes 31 and 176 was closed because of a gas leak that occurred after construction crews struck a gas main in that area. Residents were being evacuated from homes and businesses as a precautionary measure.
Crews from Nicor were en route.
Route 176 was closed in both directions between Smith Road and Route 31 on Tuesday for more than an hour.
Emergency crews also evacuated residents as a precaution.
