ROYALTON — A southern Illinois man is accused of trying to kill a friend at the defendant's home in the village of Royalton.

The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports 48-year-old Donald Waldron is charged in Franklin County with attempted murder, aggravated assault and aggravated discharge of a weapon.

Prosecutors allege Waldron fired a pistol at least twice last Saturday at the would-be victim, who was uninjured.

Police found the gun in nearby woods.

Waldron also is charged with possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Calls on Wednesday to Waldron's home went unanswered. Online court records don't show whether he has an attorney.

Waldron's bond has been set at $150,000, but a staffer at the county jail where he's being held refused to say whether Waldron still is in custody.
