Teen drowns in Bolingbrook stone quarry

BOLINGBROOK – Officials have identified a teenage boy who drowned while swimming with friends in a stone quarry in Bolingbrook.

The teen was identified Thursday as 17-year-old Javier Vera of Bolingbrook, a student at Bolingbrook High School. Police Lt. Mike Rompa says divers recovered the teen’s body Wednesday night at the Elmhurst Chicago Stone Quarry.

Officials say the boy and two other 17-year-olds were swimming laps earlier in the evening when the victim began to struggle. The other boys tried to help him but were unsuccessful.
