WOODSTOCK – A jury trial has been set for a Cary man accused of shaking a child in his care.
Alvin D. Santiago, 29, was charged in October 2012 with aggravated battery to a child, a Class X felony. His trial date is set for Nov. 4.
Police at the time said Santiago was running an unlicensed day care out of his home at 350 Ann St. The day care has since been shuttered.
Authorities six weeks before Santiago's arrest were called to the home for a report of a 3-month-old girl who was unconscious and not breathing. Santiago had been responsible for the infant and several others at the time.
The child suffered significant head trauma and underwent several surgeries, but eventually was released from medical care.
Court records indicate that Santiago has a child about the same age as the alleged victim.
A Class X felony is punishable by between six and 30 years in prison.
