Flood advisory, severe thunderstorm warning issued for McHenry County

CRYSTAL LAKE – McHenry County is under a flood advisory until 8:30 p.m. along with a thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m.

The National Weather Service in Chicago said rainfall is in excess of 1 inch per hour and a volunteer observer for the agency reported 2.5 inches of rain per hour in Harvard. Minor flooding is expected to occur in low water crossings and small stream areas.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been extended for northern McHenry County until 6:45 p.m as well.

The warning for McHenry County includes Harvard, McHenry, Woodstock and Fox Lake. The warning states half-dollar size hail and 70 mph wind gusts should be expected.

Considerable tree damage is expected. Standing water on McHenry Avenue south of Woodstock Street has also been reported.

The full county remains under a watch until 9 p.m.
