CHICAGO – Chicago transportation officials are announcing the 50 areas citywide that’ll be equipped with automated speed enforcement cameras.
The safety zones are located around parks and schools. The idea is to reduce speeding and use the money for boosting safety in the area, like with afterschool programs.
The city had only released the locations of a dozen of the cameras. The first installed have already started warning drivers. Some others are set to be activated this week.
Drivers will get one free warning the first time there’s a violation.
Officials with the Chicago Board of Transportation say all 50 zones should be operational by the end of the year.
